The Marine Corps League Talk-List
Purpose: The "MCL e-mail Discussion Group" (MCL Talk-List) is a forum intended to be
used by members of the Marine Corps League, for the purpose of exchanging
information relevant to the business or well-being of the Marine Corps
League or the general interest of its members.
If used properly, this talk-list will enable a much more rapid
exchange of information and ideas among our members than would otherwise be possible.
Hopefully this will provide Marine Corps League members with some of those benefits which can
result from improved communications.
Here's how it works: If you have an announcement which you think would be of interest to the group, a
question which you think someone in the group might be able to answer, or
if you would like to hear opinions of the members on some League-related
topic, simply post it to "the talklist". Your message will be
automatically sent to all subscribers. Any responses to your message
which are sent to that same e-mail address will also be sent to all subscribers, including you.
To subscribe to "MCL Talk-List", send an email message to the Talklist Administrator at the link below,
indicating that you would like to subscribe to the "MCL Talklist". When your subscription has been processed,
you will receive an (automatic) welcome message by email.

Marine Corps League Talk-List Guidelines
In order to make discussions easier to follow, please type a one or
two-word subject in the "subject" block when sending a
message. If you
change the topic, change the "subject". When responding to some
statement
in
a particular message, copy in only the pertinent part of that message, not
the
entire message.
If you have a message
for a member which would not be of interest to the entire group,
however,
please send it directly to that individual, not to the "list".
When sending messages to the "list", please make sure that
the topic of your message reflects the purposes of the MCL Talk-List.
Also remember when posting to the "list", that your words may be
read by our
subscribers' children and other family members. Please refrain from
sending anything which might embarrass or offend them. Also if you
will
be away from your email for an extended period, it may be to your advantage
to "unsubscribe"
temporarily
to prevent problems which often result from an overflowing
mailbox.
Here are some additional suggestions aimed at keeping the list running smoothly:
- Use common sense when posting. Be aware that you always have two options: responding through the list or to a member personally. The content of your message should determine which of these you choose.
- Remember the purpose of the list you're posting to. If you're not sure whether your post is in keeping with the purpose, consider the statement of purpose at the top of this page.
- Avoid posting inflamatory messages. List members have a variety of religious and political beliefs, not necessarily the same as yours.
- Keep posts to the list brief. If your post doesn't add value, don't send it. (Example: Don't send a "thanks" message through the list. Send something like that directly to the person you're thanking.)
- Be courteous to other list members. If you disagree with them, fine, just don't resort to personal insults.
- If you feel the need to flame, send hate mail, or otherwise reprimand another list member, do it off-list.
- Check questionable messages before forwarding with "Snopes.com" or some similar site.
- Respect other people's opinions - everyone is entitled to their opinion, even if it differs from yours.
- Spell check and reread your messages before posting.
- If you use information not your own, give proper credit.
- DON'T USE ALL CAPS !!!! In today's Internet all caps is considered "SHOUTING."
- Do not send attachments (attached files) of any sort to mailing lists. Messages larger than 50kB will typically be rejected.
Above all keep in mind that the purpose of this list is, through our
discussions and exchanges of information, to support and sustain the
United States Marine Corps and the Marine Corps League.
Semper Fidelis!
